Travel Medical Insurance 101

Filed under: Travel Medical Insurance — admin @ 7:44 am

Travel Medical Insurance is very important when you are going abroad. So important in fact several countries have made this form of insurance mandatory. I mean you may not like to talk on the subject…especially when you are trying to go on vacation but never the less it is necessary.
Travel Medical Insurance can protect you from many bad situations. It provides things for you that you would not even think of getting before you leave. Take a look at what services it will provide you and your loved one while you are away:
Travel Medical Insurance should cover hospitals and doctors on your trip as well as provide some variances of addition expense like:
• Family or friend at your bedside while you are in the hospital: Many of us don’t think of this coverage when we think of medical coverage…we already think it is covered!
• Sugary or Dental treatment after and accident.
• Rehab treatment for after the accident
• Prescription medications: yes it is an additional expense!
• X-rays and lab testing( diagnostics)
• Chemo and radiation therapy
• Second surgical opinion
• Emergency treatment or illness or injury outpatient ( this is not always a given)
They also provide you with Medical Evacuation services:
• Ground ambulance and air evacuation
• Emergency return home services, with flight or air ambulance
• Return of deceased
• Or repatriation of remains
A lot of these services are things we don’t like to think about and don’t regularly ask questions on however if you do not make sure you are covered by the basics you may find yourself in a whole world of trouble. There are too many questions to not have the coverage you need.
Here are some optional services:
Maternity: is given with normal delivery and caesarean section; you can also get coverage for your precious newborn however it is for a limited amount of days.
Children:
This benefit also gives you treatment for children up to 18 in some cases.
Additional services like pre-existing Conditions and Complementary medicine are also included. Pre-Existing Conditions have to usually be without incident for at least 120 days to qualify for the services. Complementary services cover Alternative medicines like: acupuncture, Aroma therapy, message therapy, etc…
Finding the right Travel Medical Insurance takes lots of time and careful research getting a head start on it to ensure that you get the best coverage for the best deal is a great thought. Look ahead at what services you will or might need and then look to see what the company provides. Do not be afraid to ask questions. After all they are human too!
