When do you need Travel Medical Insurance?
Travel medical insurance is not truly a need if you are traveling within the region that would cover you in the region that your network of hospitals supported by your normal health policy is there. But more often than not most of our health policies are confined to treatment in the state in which we live and to some extent covers out of state medical facility expenses.
Travel medical insurance is mandatory if you are traveling to overseas countries. The kind of consideration you gave to purchase your health policy in most cases would have been related to local coverage. If your policy supports international medical treatment you can be happy about it. If your present medical provider offers to endorse for international coverage that should be a better way to go, though with some extra in the premium.
It all depends upon the kind of pre-existing condition you have. Endorsement of your regular health policy during overseas travel is better because a new travel medical insurance will consider your medical ailment as pre-existing whereas your health policy will not, because when you initially got the policy you did not have the disease.
